Oasis Wildlife is in the south of Fuerteventura, amongst the volcanic landscapes. It offers an unexpectedly magical day out for families, couples and animal lovers of all ages. What I liked, compared to other zoo-like places, is its commitment to animal welfare and ethical tourism.
We visited during our family holiday to El Cotillo, a coastal town in the north. Since we were renting a car, we decided to make the drive down south, which took around two hours. The journey itself was scenic, winding through desert-like roads and small towns before arriving at the oasis-like entrance of the park.
Feeding Giraffes, Llamas & Riding Camels
One of the first things we did, and the most unforgettable, was feed the giraffes like you can see in my video above. You can buy animal food at the entrance, and I highly recommend that you do. We held out carrots (which seemed to be their favourite) and they nibbled from our hands. Of course, we were standing on high platforms which meant that the giraffes didn’t need to bend their necks.
We also got to feed llamas, who were just as eager but a bit more comical. The fact that the park allows these interactions in a controlled, respectful way really made the experience more immersive and joyful.
Later, we tried a camel ride, which added another layer of fun. While not the most comfortable seat you’ll ever experience, the camels were calm, and the staff leading the ride were friendly and informative.

A Park That Feels Ethical, Engaging & Clean
One thing that we quickly noticed was how well-kept and ethical the park seemed to be. I’ve visited a few wildlife parks and zoos that left me uneasy, but that wasn’t the case here. The enclosures were large and the animals seemed well cared for and healthy. You can tell that this place didn’t just want to earn money by showing off animals – it truly aims to educate people and protect the animals.
The staff were engaged, friendly, and clearly passionate about their work. We saw several keepers giving educational talks and interacting with visitors, answering questions and sharing facts about the animals in both Spanish and English. It gave us peace of mind to know that behind the scenes, there was real thought and compassion going into the animals’ lives
Lunch, Snacks & Facilities for Families
We stopped for lunch in one of the restaurants inside the park. The food was fine but nothing special. We did have smoothies in the afternoon that we all loved though. There were lots of shaded areas, places to sit and rest and lots of clean bathrooms scattered throughout the park. Of course, this is essential when you’re visiting with children. It felt like the park was made with families in mind. Everything was comfortable, accessible and clean.
Would I Recommend It?
Yes, absolutely – especially for families. If you’re visiting Fuerteventura, it’s a wonderful way to spend a day. Transport there might be a bit tricky without a car though, depending on where you are staying.
That said, I probably wouldn’t go back a second time. Not because we didn’t enjoy it becayse we really did, but because it’s the kind of place you can see and enjoy fully in one visit.
