Arrival & Atmosphere
We visited Edinburgh just before halloween last year. It’s easy to find and the entrance is adorned with seasonal decorations like pumpkins lining the alleyway. This gives the restaurant a witchy, enchanting vibe. The Witchery has two different areas to dine in : the original dining room and the Secret Garden. We dined in the Secret Garden which is an intimate room with candlelit tables and lush greenery.
Dining Experience
We chose to share the 28-Day Aged Scotch Côte de Bœuf (600g), priced at £115. This dish is designed for two and is served with truffle mash, French beans, shallots, and claret jus. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, making it a highlight of our meal.
For dessert, I indulged in the Valrhona Satilia Dark Chocolate Torte (£11.50), which featured praline crémeux and hazelnut caramel. The rich, velvety chocolate paired beautifully with the nutty undertones, providing a decadent end to the meal.
The wine selection is extensive, boasting over 600 options curated over four decades, earning accolades such as the AA Wine Award. The staff were knowledgeable and assisted us in selecting a wine that complemented our meal perfectly.
Dress Code & Service
The dress code at The Witchery is smart. I wore a dress and heels, while my husband opted for a shirt and dress shoes; both were appropriate choices. The service was attentive and professional, enhancing the overall dining experience without being intrusive.

The Witchery is situated at 352 Castlehill, Edinburgh EH1 2NF, right at the top of the Royal Mile, adjacent to Edinburgh Castle. It’s easily accessible on foot if you’re exploring the city center. The central location makes it a convenient stop during a day of sightseeing.
